So You Want to Dress Up? 10 Great Custom Party Themes

It doesn’t have to be Halloween.  If you want to throw a costume party, you certainly can, at any time of the year.  You just need a great theme and some willing friends.

  1. Ancient Greece It’s a classic, and for good reason. It doesn’t take much to create a great toga party costume!
  2. Masquerade Ball This is definitely a favorite of ours, though it does require more preparation than many of the other options. There is just something fabulous about seeing a group of people dressed to impress, complete with wigs and masks.
  3. Ugly Sweater Party It’s not a full costume, so many of the more modest party-goers will be more likely to play along. Plus, the fashion industry has really embraces this party theme, and intentionally ugly sweaters can be found in a myriad of stores.
  4. Super Heroes Banquet Every superhero deserves some time in the spotlight. With that thought in mind, put together a mock awards banquet, with each party-goer dressed as a favorite superhero.
  5. Murder Mystery Dinner Here is another theme that takes some organization in advance, but there are many great ideas online for murder mystery parties, so don’t be afraid to research this great costume party idea.
  6. Time Traveler’s Ball Prepare the dance floor, there is undoubtedly going to be some great looks prepared to partake in a traditional waltz, or perhaps a bit of disco fever instead. Everyone can feel free to dress in honor of their favorite eras.
  7. Sweatin’ With the Oldies Many will remember these popularize workout videos, so why not recreate them in party form. Bring back the upbeat music of the past, and, of course, the amazing workout outfits of Richard Simmons.
  8. Welcome to Sesame Street If the party you had in mind is more centered around the youngest attendants, then perhaps you should take a walk on Sesame Street. Or, at least, bring the street to you.  Everyone should dress as their favorite show character.
  9. Cartoon Characters Welcome Similar to the suggest above, but free for wider interpretation, a cartoon party is a great way to inspire people to dress up.
  10. Pajama Party It’s about time for a night cap. Of course, there won’t be much sleeping going on at your big party, but there could certainly be a lot of nightgowns and slipper sets.
