Healthy Snacks for Kids’ Parties

Kids’ birthday parties are wonderful, fun filled events, but there is one downside.  Most of those parties leave kids on sugar highs and with stomach aches at the end of the day.  Too much sugar is never a good thing, even on a child’s special day.  That’s why we are all in favor of serving healthy and tasty treats at kids’ birthday parties.

Fruit Skewers If they want sweet, give them sweet, but do it the natural way.  Melons and berries are always a big hit with kids.  Cut them up in bite size pieces and skewer them, so kids can grab them and go.  There is the added bonus of a pop of party-time color, thanks to the gorgeous hues of fresh fruit.

Chips and Salsa There are a lot of chips on the market today.  Those that are baked and served with salsa are certainly preferable to traditional salty chips and dip.  Most salsas are chock full of veggies too!

Popcorn Popcorn is a light snack, and as long as you don’t load it with butter and salt, it will prove a healthy and popular snack for kids’ parties.

Chocolate Drizzled Rice Cakes Remember, a little bit of chocolate isn’t a bad thing, especially dark chocolate.  Melt it and drizzle it over rice cakes (you can even add sprinkles for added fun) and you have a kid-approved snack.

Veggies with Hummus or Dips There is a misconception that kids hate vegetables.  Today’s kids are far more willing to take a plate of veggies than those of generations past.  The healthy eating movement has certainly made this the case.  So, don’t be afraid to add a veggie platter, complete with a spinach dip or dish of hummus for dipping.

Frozen Bananas Again, a little chocolate isn’t a bad thing, especially when it is accompanied by fruit.  So, make up a tray of frozen, chocolate-covered bananas for the kids who want a sweet treat.
