Choose the Right DJ for Your Event

Every great event needs great music to go with it, whether it’s a band, a DJ, or even your own playlist coming out of the speakers. If you do decide to hire a DJ, which is a wonderful option, there are a few things you need to consider beforehand. You can’t just get online, search for a local DJ, and hire the first one you see. There are some things you need to ask, and doing your due diligence will help ensure that your party goes off without a hitch.

Availability

The first thing to check with any DJ you’re considering is their availability. If they are all booked up on  your date, then move on to the next one. Even if they tell you the date is available, though, be sure to ask them if they have any other commitments that day. You don’t want them showing up late or leaving early because there’s another party they’ve also committed to.

Experience

Experience is another huge factor. You’ll want to ask how many years they’ve been in business, and whether or not they’ve handled events like the one you’re planning. If they haven’t, you might want to keep looking, unless you feel confident that they understand exactly what you’re looking for with your event.

What’s Included

Obviously music and equipment is included, but what else? Namely, will the DJ also act as emcee during your event, which is something many people want. If you plan on including a ceremony or having introductions made, ask if the DJ is comfortable emceeing those “extras” as well. If they’re not, you may have to make alternate plans, or keep looking for a different DJ.

Cost

Finally, how much will it all cost? Get a breakdown of all the costs you can expect to incur, and be sure to ask if there might be any fees that could pop up later on. For instance, if your party runs later than expected, will you be charged and how much will it be? Also ask if there’s a deposit, and what the DJ’s cancellation and refund policies should the need arise.
