Bar Mitzvah: How to Plan a Party for Teenage Boys

Planning a party for young men can be a challenge.  Where girls will happily accept heaps of decorations, and will want to be involved with every step of the planning, boys are more likely to take a step back.  While they do want the party, they don’t have as much to say about how it looks, what is served, and where it is to be held.

If you are planning a Bar Mitzvah, consider these suggestions to ensure that the young men in attendance are comfortable and entertained.

Play with Light Streamers, banners and balloons may not suit for this party planning experience, so instead, experiment with light.  There are a lot of fun ways to decorate with light.  For instance, glow sticks and glow bands can be handed out to guests, but can also be used to create gorgeous (yet masculine) centerpieces.  Look to Pinterest for directions on crafting large chandeliers entirely from the glowing sticks.  Lighting food from underneath, is also a playful way to make the party festive.  Consider foods that will work with the light, such as Jello and white cotton candy.

Select the Right Beverages You don’t have to have a lot of decorations, if you are going to serve the right foods and drinks.  These can add all of the color you need to the occasion.  There are so many fun and funky drinks on the market, which will add a touch of color to the big day. Fill and freeze water balloons and set the drinks, along with the frozen balloons, in large buckets.  Everything stays cold, and it will look amazing.

Feed them a Feast If there is one thing that teenage boys appreciate, it is a good meal.  So, choose the favorite foods and serve them in entertaining ways.  Mini burgers and a shot glass filled with ketchup and French fries, for instance, will be a big hit.  Also, consider setting up several different food bars.  For example, you might have a popcorn bar with various topping options, a salad bar, a candy bar, a pizza bar, or even a nacho bar.
